U15 Mid Season Update

Our U15 team has had a few weeks off from the league (with some games cancelled due to the weather) but last night we played Miskin CC. Miskin totalled 115 batting first. Our fielding improved after over 10, when Miskin looked like they would get 140+. Megan Janczewski bowling at the death with 2-0-6-1 and Theo Walker bowling 3-1-6-0 reduced the run rate. In the middle overs Ben Smart and Joe Phillips also bowled well.

In reply a steady start from openers Joe Phillips and Ollie Saxton took the score to 30-1. Joe getting out for 16 opening for the first time. Alfie Cogbill and Theo Walker had a partnership of 23 increasing the run rate. Theo Walker accelerating to 30 retired in 20 balls with some very hard hitting 4s to put the team into a winning position.

Will Johnson and Harvey Rees then continued the run rate with 9 each before Ollie Morgan hit the winning run with 1 ball to spare. A great team performance.

The team had reached the Regional Semi Final in the Welsh Cup the week before and unfortunately lost to Swansea in a close encounter with the game played in good spirit. There was an excellent opening bowling display from Alfie Cogbill who opened with off spin. The fielding was excellent throughout and was well supported at the club.

The team plays Cardiff next week in the league. Many of our players are a year young in the U15 league but we are already holding our own back in the A league for the fist time in a number of years. The future bolds well at this age group with many playing regularly in senior cricket.
